in and around Sacramento, rain or shine, to raise money for the
Wildland Firefighters Foundation general fund following the Esperanza

A golf tournament to benefit the firefighters’
families will be held at the Kern Valley Golf Course in Bakersfield.
Registration for the 18-hole scramble runs through
Dec. 6. Cost is $60 per person and includes greens fee, cart, food and
a donation to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation. Check-in is 9 a.m.
and tee time is 10 a.m.

Idyllwild Pizza Co. is planning a chili cook-off
with proceeds going to the families of the fallen firefighters.

will donate the first month’s storage rental to Habitat for Humanity’s

offering free storage to any fallen Esperanza firefighters’ families
and a free location for any fund-raising events that benefit the
families.

Recent donations
Pastor Ed Mitchell’s Dec. 2 poker run, chili
cook-off and auction at Jo’An’s Restaurant raised $1,722 for the
firefighters’ families.
Richard Koine of Idyllwild came in first in the
chili cook-off. Pastor Ed said the even went off without a hitch with
nice weather and a lot of fun.
Riverside County Supervisor Marion Ashley said to
date, the county’s Esperanza Firefighters Assistance Fund has raised
more than $1 million.
Ranging from $2 to one for more than $100,000, 4,168
checks have come in, including $73,000 from golfer Fred Couples and
$73,837 from radio DJs John and Ken of KFI-AM 640.
