George
Moore
August 15, 2000
George Moore, 79,
died of cancer on Aug. 15, at Eisenhower
Medical Center. Mr. Moore was born in Hardwood, MI. on May 9, 1921.
He served in the United States Navy for six years
during
WWII. He retired to Idyllwild in 1980, after working for Dow Chemical
in
Torrance for 30 years.
Mr. Moore was a Master Mason of 50 years, his last
affiliation
being with Masonic Lodge 668, in Banning. He was also a member of the
Idyllwild
Hi-Twelve Club and was active in the Idyllwild community.
He was past president of the Friends of the San
Jacinto
Mountains and was a volunteer at the San Jacinto Nature Center for over
15 years.
Mr. Moore is survived by his wife, Grace, and son
Don,
of Long Beach, and daughter, Pat, of Banning. He has three grandsons,
Robbie,
Robert and Brian, and one great-grand child. He is also survived by his
sister, Mary Rowe, of Simi Valley.
A memorial service for Mr. Moore will be held
Sunday,
Aug. 27, at 2 p.m., at the Idyllwild Community Presbyterian Church. His
remains will be scattered at sea in a private ceremony by family
members.
Mary
Julianne Ryan
December 1, 2000
Mary Julianne Ryan,
63, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at
Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage.
A resident of Idyllwild, Ms. Ryan died of heart
disease
after a long illness.
She was born Nov. 19, 1936 in Los Angeles and had
lived
in Idyllwild for many years.
She had run a security service on the Hill but was
retired
at the time of her death.
Ms. Ryan was active in Mountain Community Patrol and
was
a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day-Saints in
Idyllwild.
Memorial services are planned for 7 pm. Friday, Dec.
8
at her Idyllwild church with President David E. Peeler conducting.
She is survived by a daughter, La Vonne Reese and a
brother,
James Welke.
Walter
Samenfeld
October 6, 2000
The family of Walter
Samenfeld is sad to announce his
passing on Friday, Oct. 6, 2000.
Walter was born (June 15, 1916) and raised in Los
Angeles.
He returned to Los Angeles after marine service
(1933-37)
aboard the U.S.S. Oklahoma in the Panama Canal, and met his sweetheart
Eleanor. They were married for 56 years.
He was known for his work ethic and for carpeting
some
of the biggest jobs in the San Diego area, including the Broadway
shopping
center, The Stardust, and the May Co., among others.
His carpet business was very successful until his
retirement
in the early 1980s. He raised his family in Crestline, then moved to
Oceanside.
In the late 1960s, he enjoyed coming to Idyllwild
and
riding horses. He continued visiting Idyllwild with his family in the
1970s.
Walter had residences in Oceanside and Idyllwild
before
moving to Idyllwild full-time in the early 1990s.
He missed his wife terribly since her death nearly 3
years
ago. He was also consoled at Jan's Red Kettle by daughter Emily or by
driving
his red Oldsmobile to the laundry with his dog Kish.
A memorial service will be held at The Church of
Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints, 53-830 Tollgate Rd., on Friday, Oct. 20,
at
5:30 p.m.
The Samenfelds are survived by daughter Emily and
her
husband Mike Pearson; daughter Waldene and her husband Dennis Lacey;
and
two other daughters. Walter had five grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that
donations
be made to the Tree Monument that Walter loved to gaze at.
William
Clintis
Taylor
November 14, 2000
William Clintis
Taylor, 56, of Idyllwild, died at his
home on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000. The cause of death is unknown at this
time.
Mr. Taylor was born on March 16, 1944, in Hemet. He
lived
in Idyllwild his entire life. Mr. Taylor worked with the Fern Valley
Water
District for 26 years, and retired as the Field Superintendent.
A remembrance for family and friends will be held at
11:30
a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at the Taylor residence at 25180 Fern
Valley
Road, Idyllwild.
Inurnment was private.
Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife JoDee Taylor of
Idyllwild;
a son, Michael Taylor of Corona; a daughter, Joanie Taylor of Corona; a
brother, Thomas Taylor of Hemet; a sister, Betty Warren of El Monte;
and
three grandchildren, Rikki, Brighton and Daniel.
Gracemarie
Womack
November 17, 2000
Gracemarie Womack,
78, of San Diego and Stonewood (near
Pine Cove), died of heart failure on Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at home in
San Diego.
Mrs. Womack was born Nov. 19, 1921, in Dubuque, Iowa.
She was a longtime Stonewood and Idyllwild resident
and
was a member of the Idyllwild Garden Club and the Friends of Idyllwild
Arts, a group no longer functioning. She also belonged to the San Diego
chapter of Cancer Victims and Friends.
She had been a resident of Idyllwild since 1985, and
lived
here continually until around 1996. She became a part-time resident
after
that.
A housewife, writer and photographer, she produced
more
than 3,000 cards of Idyllwild scenes that were sold through local shops
from 1988 to 1992. Her love of Idyllwild was apparent in the photos she
took of the area. When Mrs. Womack first came to Idyllwild, there were
no picture cards of the area.
She was the first person to make picture cards.
Inurnment
was private, and her ashes were scattered at sea.
Mrs. Womack is survived by her husband, Stanley E.
Womack.
