Eagles composer coming to Rustic

By Jenna Hunt, Correspondent

Singer/Songwriter Jack Tempchin will perform during an intimate show at the Rustic Theatre on Dec. 6.

Tempchin, who is famous for writing the Eagles hit, “Peaceful Easy Feeling,” and co-writing “Already Gone,” will be performing with Greg Leisz (pronounced “Lease”) an American multi-instrumentalist, who plays lap and pedal steel guitars, guitar, mandolin and bass.

Tempchin has also co-composed hits with Glenn Frey during Frey’s solo career, including “Smuggler’s Blues” and “You Belong to the City.”

Leisz has performed with many top musicians, including Tiger Army, Bill Frisell, Tracy Chapman, The Smashing Pumpkins, Matthew Sweet, Beck, Bruce Cockburn, Wilco, Shawn Colvin, Lucinda Williams, Emmylou Harris, Sheryl Crow and Alison Krauss.

These two powerful musicians were brought together to perform in Idyllwild thanks to the collaboration between the Rustic Theatre and Up-Tight Entertainment. The 230-seat Rustic Theatre is under the new ownership of Shane Stewart. Up-Tight Entertainment’s mission is to provide the highest quality performances in a small, personal venue like the Rustic Theatre. Up-Tight Entertainment promoter Jonie Millhouse of Idyllwild said he believes there is a niche for fine entertainment in a small setting.

“It’s an attempt to lure people into art galleries and bed and breakfasts who have not been here before,” Millhouse said. “I’m trying to bring a different crowd to Idyllwild.”

The long-term goal of the collaboration between the Rustic Theatre and Up-Tight Entertainment is to bring more awareness of Idyllwild as a cultural and world-class entertainment venue. Millhouse said the beautiful mountain town is the perfect setting for people to dress up, enjoy fine, catered gourmet cuisine and wines, and watch top-notch entertainment.

“I want people to see top-quality entertainment up close and personal,” Millhouse said.

One goal is to eventually televise the events on cable and public access media, and create a cult-following to help put Idyllwild on the map as a world-class entertainment destination.

A limited number of seats will be available at reduced cost or free to families or persons unable to pay for tickets, Millhouse said.

“We’re going to give back to the community for some free seats for locals,” he said.

Tickets are limited and are $20 for general admission and $100 for VIP. Tickets will go on sale Monday, Nov. 17, at the Rustic Theatre and online at www.tix.com.
